Retaining Wall, Seat Wall and Column Design & Construction
Retaining walls are generally either built with segmented concrete block or masoned with stone veneer. When selecting a wall material, consider which style will best suit your needs:
- Segmented Concrete Block: Popular in the Raleigh area, segmented concrete concrete blocks work well on uneven terrain. They have long last durability and consistently stand the test of time. Segmented concrete blocks are fairly easy to install and come in a variety of materials, sizes and colors to match your outdoor area.
- Stone Veneer: Veneer comes in both natural stone and man-made. Stone veneer is masoned onto your wall and columns. Heritage block is a popular veneer choice among our clients.
What Does a Retaining Wall Do?

Seat walls are mini retaining walls whose function is provide a type of bench seating for your outdoor living space. Seat walls helps to maximize space while utilizing the same function as a retaining wall.
Columns are essentially vertical standing retaining walls. Most columns are around 18″ x 18″ and 4′ tall. Columns are usually added for aesthetic purposes but they can be added to support structures such as a pergola. Columns are typically masoned.
